Hey all. How many of you or someone you know pronounces a word wrong, but give it an accent. Like for example. My grandma will say I need to do the deeshes, load the deesh worsher, need to do the worsh, and so on. I've also heard my mom will say I need to trim the booshes, or instead of push she'll say poosh. For some reason I find people that talk like this funny the way they say these words. So let's see some more words that are pronounced old fassioned.

Troy, I don't know what part of the country you're from, but were I live, we put a hurtin' on the English language. I can't spell well anyway, but being blind this sure hasn't helped much. Older people in my city are the worst/funnist offenders. Growing up, I believed that the sidewalk was actually called the Payment for the first five years of my life. One gets water from the "zinc". When people run water over something to get the soap off, they are "wrenching" it. Amazing I everl learned to talk good.

Haha, motifated, I take it that was a joke at the end of your post... "Amazing I ever learned to talk good" :-). Good one!

When I moved to Philadelphia from Seattle my mother-in-law told me "Your brother-inlaw is going to give you a poller set." "What's poller?" I asked my new husband. "You know, parlor." And, although I had read about parlors, to me, that room in the house was the living room. Funny about words, accents, etc.

Suzanne, you got it. One thing that is peculiar to what seems like the Eastern U.S. Different cities have their own version of the plural of you. In maryland, I guess we spell it Yous, but pronounce it use. In western Pensylvania, the same word is youans is pronounced "yunz".

Hm, I heard that was the real Mason-Dixon line: the border between "youse guys" and "y'all" :-)

Good one! I never heard that before.

Even though I'm from western Pennsylvania, I've always used "y'all." I guess that's just me being ghetto. But I've know people who needed to go "worsh the deeshes." And the word "youns" just works my nerves!

Well motifated is right. Here in Baltimore we truly murder the english language. Ok first we don't say Baltimore, we pronounce the T as a D. And then there's pixture instead of picture. NOt all do this but some, mostly from east baltimore. And they also say zink and warsh. And of course, the thames in Thames street is actually pronounced fenetically, lol.
